World of Fantasy - The History and Present Day of Glass Christmas Ornaments
Glass Christmas ornaments would likely never have been created if it were not for the Christmas tree. Its role and significance, in turn, cannot be understood without considering the origins and evolution of Christmas and its symbols, including the figure of Santa Claus, who has become a global pop-culture icon whose influence extends far beyond the holiday itself and its rituals. Therefore, this book also includes chapters dedicated to the origins of both modern Christmas and its main symbols. It examines not only the Czech context but also the German, British, and American contexts, which are crucial to their emergence, evolution, and preservation. The primary focus, of course, is on glass Christmas ornaments. The work provides a synthesis of information on glass Christmas ornaments in the main production and consumption centers. The focus and core of the work lie in a detailed account of the history and present state of Czech glass Christmas ornaments, based on numerous archival, published, or digitized sources, many of which were used in research on this subject for the first time.
The publication was created with institutional support for the long-term conceptual development of the research organisation that is the State Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou, as provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
