Revision

The state-run Museum of Glass and Jewellery has been working with art schools for decades now, and the works created by young designers brings our exhibitions courage, a view from outside the box, and a deeper subtext. For curators and visitors alike, they are a breath of fresh air, the wind and the gale that stir our thinking and transform our perception of artistic craftsmanship.

Although the revision of collection items is a common part of museum practice, in this project it has become the impulse for some less-than-conventional creation. The REVISION project brought together historical costume jewellery in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles and contemporary design. Body, clothing, or hair ornaments were chosen as templates for students from several jewellery-focused universities, the aim not to simply create a "copy" of the historical piece using new material, but to instead maximize the potential of the original work and transform it into a functional, wearable, and replicable fashion accessory.

The young jewellery-makers took on this demanding challenge with extraordinary dedication, producing a number of creative prototypes that bring new materials and fresh views to mass-produced ornaments. Pieces were created that go beyond the mere fashion accessory – they carry the personal story and strong emotions that the touch of history evoked in the artists. The REVISION exhibition is therefore tangible proof of the creative potential that enriches the jewellery industry and museum collections alike.
