Maximilian Riedel Visits the Museum

Maximilian J. Riedel, a representative of the 11th generation of the famous glassmaking family, visited our museum on April 13 along with other representatives and partners of the glassworks.

They also visited Kristiánov, where Johann Leopold Riedel founded a glassmaking settlement in 1774 (this year marks the 250th anniversary of the lighting of the glass furnace) and began writing an important chapter in the history of Czech and European glassmaking.

The group was accompanied by Petr Nový, the chief curator and historian of our museum and author of the book “Riedel – Glass, Trends, Innovations,” which focuses on the utilitarian, decorative, luxury, and lighting glass produced by the Josef Riedel company and its predecessors (1752–1945).

Such gatherings connect the past with the present and serve as a reminder of how strong and vibrant the legacy of the glassmaking tradition that originated in the Jizera Mountains remains.
