Our museum has organized the next edition of the JABLONEC 2026 International Triennial of Glass and Jewellery. The main themes of the five exhibitions are current trends in design, art, and industry. Four of them will open to visitors on May 15.
The main exhibition of the triennial is a traditional showcase of the best in functional glass and jewellery to appear on the Czech market over the past three years. Under the title TRENDY.DESIGN.PRODUCTION, visitors can view 150 products from 50 companies, glassworks, brands, and studios from four European countries through September. In addition to domestic participants, Germany, Austria, and Slovakia are represented. This is not a presentation of one-off pieces or prototypes, but a real commercial offering. While the curators select the participants, the exhibitors themselves choose the products that represent them. “The goal is to offer an alternative to the numerous design shows that, from a commercial and export perspective, present only a small—albeit important—part of contemporary Czech glassmaking,” said Petr Nový, the project’s chief curator.
The best collections will be awarded medals by a five-member international committee composed of experts from the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain. The museum’s exhibition design, based on a proposal by David Matura—who is also the author of the Triennial’s graphic design—was produced by the Jablonec College of Applied Arts.
Awards are also presented by the project’s partners and the public, who will be able to vote throughout the duration of the exhibition. “The exhibition’s scenography was created by glass designer František Jungvirt, for whom this is his first major project of this kind. We are very pleased with the imaginative result, which features a palette of pastel tones,” added Director Milada Valečková.
In addition to the main presentation, the museum will simultaneously offer the exhibitions BOROSILICATE GLASS and THE DIRECTION TO THE STARS. The first of these, part of the permanent glass exhibition, showcases products from Czech companies that manufacture or process this now very popular material. In the museum annex, visitors will discover artistic and art design objects by Dominika Petrtýlová, Johan Pertl, and Vlastimil Šenkýř, three prominent figures of the emerging generation of glass artists.
On the occasion of the Triennial, the permanent exhibition of Christmas ornaments was expanded to include the results of the 2nd International Symposium, which produced three entirely new collections of Christmas ornaments. They were created jointly by designer Veronika Velčovská Jiroušková and DUV Christmas Ornaments – Dvůr Králové nad Labem Cooperative, Polish artist Kalina Bańka–Kulka and HAN Jičín, designer Martin Jakobsen, and Slezská tvorba Opava.
The project will conclude on October 21 with the exhibition REVIZE, which brings together historical costume jewelry and modern design. Students from five universities in the Czech Republic and abroad have transformed Art Nouveau and Art Deco costume jewelry from the museum’s collection into contemporary fashion accessories. On display will be bold prototypes that blend traditional craftsmanship with new materials and the personal stories of their creators.
