Event in exhibition – Heinrich Hoffmann and the beginning of the artistic crystalware (1926)
On the occasion of this year's 160th anniversary of Jablonec nad Nisou promotion to city status, we are presenting a glass assortment of artistic crystalware typical of the region, which was first produced here by the Jablonec-based company Heinrich Hoffmann.
The history of the Heinrich Hoffmann company dates back to 1867. At that time, Franz Hoffmann (1846–1915) began trading in glass costume jewellery in Maršovice. In 1900, he handed over the thriving business to his son Heinrich Hoffmann (1875–1939), who renamed it and moved it to Jablonec nad Nisou. The company's product range included costume jewellery glass stones, beads, buttons and small glassware. The company's production of artistic crystalware (items made by pressing glass into a metal mold, then refined by hand) can be first documented in 1926, when the first collection was created. Thanks to the wide range of shapes and decorations, luxurious appearance and affordability, vases, decorative items, toilet, office, beverage and table sets immediately became popular with customers.
The exhibition is located in the permanent glass exposition until 2. 8. 2026.
